We are all neurodiverse, but for some neurotypes, our modern way of living makes it harder
Why I Ended My IG Break During Neurodiversity Celebration Week
Recent headlines prompted me to end my IG break, and with it being Neurodiversity Week, I felt it was important to address some concerning statements.
Claims that ADHD is a scam, people are being overdiagnosed, and that dyslexia doesn’t exist highlight that, as a society, we still have much to learn about making our world more inclusive.
I strongly believe that we’re all unique individuals with our own ways of thinking and experiencing life. However, due to the way our society has evolved, everyday life, the school system, or the workplace may be more challenging for some of us.
It’s also important to remember that having certain traits doesn’t automatically equate to a diagnosis, such as ADHD. And while there’s a lot we can do to support our traits, neurotypes are largely genetic.
We aren’t overdiagnosing or labeling people; instead, we’re finally putting together the puzzle pieces for those who’ve struggled with different aspects of life since childhood. They’re finally getting the answers they deserve.
Learning about my brain neurotype has improved my relationships and changed how I work for the better. It’s even made me rethink my life priorities.
My hope is that, in the near future, we’ll look back at these misinformed beliefs and be thankful that our societal mindset has taken a big step forward.
I’d love to know your thoughts on this topic. Happy Neurodiversity Celebration Week to everyone! ??????
