VEGETARIAN AND PLANT-BASED DIETS
“Well-planned plant-based diets can support healthy living at every age and life-stage.”
British Dietetic Association
As a registered nutrition practitioner, I work with clients who have different dietary requirements and preferences. However, I see more and more people who have stopped eating meat, a lot of whom are vegetarian or 100% plant-based. I am also often contacted by people who want to include more plant-based meals in their diet.
There are various reasons why people might choose a plant-based diet – ranging from environmental and ethical concerns to health matters. Studies also show that people who follow a predominantly plant-based diet have a reduced risk of developing heart disease, the majority of cancers, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. It can help support a healthy gut and hormonal health. The amount of positive scientific data demonstrating this is overwhelming.
However, there can be potential pitfalls when making the move to plant-based eating, which is why it’s crucial to be well informed to ensure we are getting the optimum nutrition from our meals.
I am a member of the non-profit organisation Plant-Based Health Professionals UK (PBHP UK), with whom I have collaborated on creating factsheets, recipes and events. I trained for four years in Nutrition at the renowned Institute of Optimum Nutrition and also regularly attend CPD training. I completed the first university-based course on plant-based nutrition in the UK, with the University of Winchester, a course facilitated by Dr Shireen Kassam of PBHP UK.
This one-off consultation is a good option for those who are not looking to address any specific health issues. Whether you are transitioning to a plant-based diet or would like to optimise your plant-based diet, this thorough 90 minute consultation is an opportunity for you to learn what you can do to achieve an optimal diet. It includes a personalised nutrition report, supplement recommendations, handouts, recipes, shopping lists and meal ideas.
I have worked with vegetarian and plant-based clients experiencing:
PCOS, thyroid conditions (inc. Hashimoto's thyroiditis), weight gain, insulin resistance, premenstrual syndrome, chronic stress, endometriosis, fibroids, migraines, perimenopause and menopause.
I also support vegetarian and plant-based clients (and their partners) during the preconception period (inc. assisted conception) and pregnancy.
Everyone reacts differently to certain foods, according to their unique genetic makeup. I am authorised to work with Nutrigenomix, a University of Toronto biotechnology company that provides clients with groundbreaking genetic testing. They have a test specifically designed for people following a plant-based diet, helping you to thrive on your nutritional choices, based on your results. You’ll only be informed about ‘modifiable’ genetic variants that are currently affecting your health or might do so in the future - enabling you to empower yourself using the preventative measures of diet and lifestyle to minimise the risk of disease. If you’d like to find out more, please contact me.
During our 1-to-1 consultations, I will look at your diet and lifestyle, and together, we'll find simple, sustainable and effective strategies to benefit you. Take the first step and book your free, no obligation 20 minutes call.
As a Registered Nutritionist mBANT, I also offer group workshops involving talks and food demonstrations. Do get in touch - I look forward to hearing from you!
